Well, that was a bit of an anticlimactic finish to the fantasy football season. Alas, we have direction from the NFL and ESPN on how to deal with the Bills vs Bengals game last Monday night. They decided to nullify the game and issue 0 points across the board. I get that from an NFL standpoint, but I disagree from a fantasy football standpoint. Luckily, we didn’t have any high stakes situations. However, I do want to go over games affected and explain my thought process on the final standings

Championship Game

On the back of Devante Adams and Jared Goff, scoring 34 and 22 points respectively. Jose took a 23.1 point lead going into Monday Night Football that all but sealed his 2nd NCAL Championship. Jose had Bills TE, Dawson Knox and Mark had Bengals Kicker Evan McPherson left to play before the game was canceled and points were removed from the board. I looked at the average, highest scored, lowest scored and combined them to create different scenarios to see if there was ever a realistic chance that Mark would make up the deficit and there was none. Jose would have won in all scenarios which makes the decision to crown the championship a less controversial one. Please join me in congratulating Jose and his 2022-2023 winning team, the Raider Nation!

Final Score: Raider Nation (112.4) to (89.3) Challenge Me

6th and 7th Place

This one was a bit more difficult to figure out how to handle. Officially, Brad ended up losing the matchup by 0.98 points despite having Gabe Davis and Tyler Bass playing in the MNF game and Tyler having no players left. I also believe that Brad already had won with a Tyler Bass field goal before the game was canceled, however those points were removed. Officially, ESPN called the win for Tyler, which doesn’t sit right with me. In 99.9999% (repeating of course) of cases, Brad would have been the winner, however because we didn’t have these contingencies in place, ESPN called Tyler the winner. This is where the gavel of the commissioner strikes, and I call for this game to be tied until settled by a best of 7 series of Rock-Paper-Scissors using a 1-2-Shoot format. Scissors hand gesture has to be crisp and sharp (unless either of you are missing a middle or index finger, in which we will make the tiebreaker a potato sack race). For now, both teams will finish the season in 6th and will each receive 7 dynasty points (instead of the 8 for 6th place). The winner of the Rock-Paper-Scissors series will gain an additional dynasty point but will forever have an asterisk in the record books.

8th and 9th Place

LOL. Next.

Dynasty Rankings

As I mentioned at the beginning of the season, I’ve been keeping track of Dynasty Rankings which ranks the best teams throughout the seasons. Until this season, I held the top spot with 53 points. However, with two championships under his belt, Jose moves to the top of the leaderboard with 71 total points. Jose is also the first team manager to collect 2 gold badges on his card! You can check out your dynasty score updated on your team card, the order of team cards also reflects the order of the dynasty standings.

Side note: can we all take a moment to make fun of Quang and Frank Jr. They have been here for 4 seasons and they still have less dynasty points than Amado, a player who hasn’t been with us for 2 seasons. Point and laugh.

League Upkeep

Even though it is unlikely that it will ever happen again. I will try to come up with some contingencies to handle the weird situation that happened last week. That way we know how to handle these situations in future seasons, spoiler alert, it will not involve Rock-Paper-Scissors unfortunately.

Special Rules: There was a little side bet between Jesse and Frank at the beginning of the season. Whoever finished ahead of the other would pay for the other's entry fee. Frank clearly finished miles ahead of Jesse. Hope you two gentlemen can deal with the transaction on your own accord. Congrats Frank. See? Not a complete loser this season.

Pictures are mandatory for next year, you will not suiting up next year without one. You’ve been warned.

Last but not least, shoot me a text if you are still interested in being a part of the league next year.

End of Season

We have wrapped up our 4th season of the National Couch Athlete League. There were highs, there were lows, there was AI, there was even a world cup, we had Frank ALMOST make it yet again, and we had a season-long dominating team in One Man Wolfpack (Bert) lose when it really mattered. Most importantly, we saw the once powerful and handsome Amedalhi, lose his throne at the top (at least he’s still handsome). Overall it was a great season, and glad to have shared with you (maybe except Frank and Quang). Look forward to next season!
